Sodium Persulfate

Sodium Persulfate is a white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. Due to its oxidizing properties, it can be used as a bleaching agent, metal surface cleaning agent, chemical reagents, pharmaceutical raw materials, battery and emulsion polymerization accelerator and initiator.

Sodium persulfate, also known as sodium peroxydisulfate and sodium persulfate, has the general formula Na2S2O8 and has a relative molecular mass of 238.13. Gradual decomposition of this substance at room temperature, or rapid decomposition in liquid ethanol, or decomposition to release oxygen and produce sodium pyrosulfate.

Moisture and platinum black, silver, lead, iron, copper, magnesium, nickel, manganese and other metal ions or their alloys can promote decomposition and help speed up decomposition. Sodium persulfate emits hydrogen peroxide at high temperature (about 200 ℃). This substance is soluble in water. Sodium persulfate is obtained through the chemical oxidation of potassium sulfate with fluorine.

Sodium persulfate is a crystalline and white solid that is soluble in water, although it should be noted that the solubility of this product is higher in hot water than in cold water. Another feature of this product is its high moisture absorption. Sodium persulfate is highly flammable, therefore it should be kept away from flammable materials, heat, flames, and sparks. Sodium persulfate is originally prepared through the chemical oxidation of potassium sulfate using fluorine.

Sodium persulfate is a strong oxidizer. With strong oxidation, sodium persulfate can be used as a g agent, which can oxidize Cr3+, Mn2+, etc. to the corresponding compound with a high oxidation state, in the presence of Ag+ .

Sodium sulfate is used as a bleach, both independently (especially in hair cosmetics) and as a detergent. This substance replaces ammonium persulfate in etch mixtures for zinc plates and printed circuits and is used for copper and other metals.

This material is used as a soil conditioner and in the manufacture of dyes, starch modification, bleaching, for oxidative sedimentation, etc.

Sodium persulfate is used for waste processing in the photographic industry, as a soft metal surface corrosion agent in printed circuit boards and as a textile precipitant, sulfur dye.

Sodium persulfate is an oxidizing sulfate salt and is used as a radical initiator in polymerization reactions of styrene base monomers.

Dangers of sodium persulfate

Sodium persulfate is a strong oxidizer and a severe irritant to the skin, eyes and respiratory system.

Long-term contact of sodium persulfate with the skin can cause sensitization.

Sodium persulfate is almost non-wetting and has particularly good long-term storage capabilities. It is easy and safe to work with. This substance is not combustible, but it easily releases oxygen and helps in the combustion of other substances.

Sodium prolphate should be kept away from moisture, heat, flame, sources of ignition, shock, friction, regenerating agents, organic substances, sodium peroxide, aluminum and powdered metals.
